Liberals want to be judged on good intentions. Franklin Delano Roosevelt and the “New Deal” created Social Security, the TVA, SEC, Emergency Relief Administration, CCC, FCC, Fannie Mae, and National Housing Act among other legislative acts. Lyndon Johnson and the “Great Society” created the Economic Opportunity Act, Medicare and Medicaid, the Omnibus Housing Act, the War on Poverty, National Endowment of the Arts, and other government programs.
Both FDR and LBJ believed that only government could solve the nation’s problems through massive government intervention and spending. But what it really created was massive entitlement programs and the perception that individuals were spectators not participants in their quest for economic and social prosperity and independence. Once the requirement for personal responsibility was removed the results were disastrous, particularly in the black community.
Untold trillions have been spent on welfare, food stamps, rent supplements, Section 8 housing, Pell grants, student loans, legal services, Medicaid, Earned Income Tax Credits and poverty programs designed to bring the African-American community into the mainstream.
What it has produced is an illegitimacy rate of 70%, a high school dropout rate in some areas near 50%, reduction in literacy rates, soaring crime rates, the destruction of the nuclear family. Black males make up 70% of the prison committing primarily black on black crimes. The inter dependency that exists between black voters and Democratic politicians has insured that many blacks will be relegated to generational welfare that does not eliminate poverty but insures and expands poverty.
Rather than liberating blacks through the Civil War and the Civil Rights Act, Democratic driven entitlement programs have put blacks Back on the Plantation.
